One second I was running toward my mom. The next second… gone. 💀

Apparently six-year-old me had not yet discovered the concept of looking where I was running.

😭

Have you ever been running toward someone and somehow completely failed to notice a giant obstacle directly in front of you?

Because apparently I have.

Except my obstacle wasn’t a chair.

It wasn’t a wall.

It was an entire pond. 💀

According to my mom, one second she could see me running toward her… and the next second I had completely disappeared.

I don’t even remember what was so urgent. I just know I saw my mom and apparently decided I needed to get to her at maximum speed.

From my mom’s point of view, this must have looked insane.

Kid running.

Kid running.

Kid—

gone.

💀

I don’t remember every detail of that day.

But I do know that I was running toward my mom, completely missed an entire pond, and vanished from her view in about one second.

Honestly, that feels very on-brand for childhood.

No planning.

No awareness.

Just confidence. 💀

And now, years later, it’s one of those family stories that somehow gets funnier every time someone tells it.
